The streets outside
fill with a sweet, musty smell
as the rain pelts the pavement
causing the children to
run out from their small houses
into the cemented streets
eager to catch
the dashing drops
that tingle
their outstretched tongues.
Heads roll back
and laughter erupts
and squeals of delight escape
from tiny, wriggling bodies
swaying to the rhythm of the rain
that renders
their souls free
and their spirits
unhindered.
